After appearing to the disciples on many occasions, Jesus ascends into heaven. The virtue of hope is associated with this mystery.
- In the time after his suffering [Jesus] showed them in many convincing ways that he was
alive, appearing to them over the course of forty days and speaking to them about the
reign of God. (Acts 1:3)
- He opened their minds to the understanding of Scripture. (Luke 24:25)
- Jesus addressed the eleven disciples in these words, "Full authority
has been given to me both in heaven and on earth." (Matthew 28:18)
- "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)
- "And know that I am with you always, until the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20)
- "It is much better for you that I go. If I fail to go, the Paraclete will never come to you, whereas if I go,
I will send him to you." (John 16:7)
- He was lifted up before their eyes in a cloud which took him from their sight. (Acts 1:9)
- The Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven and took his seat at God's right hand. (Mark 16:19)
- [The apostles] were still gazing up into the heavens when two men dressed in white stood beside
them. (Acts 1:10)
- "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking up at the skies? This Jesus
who has been taken from you will return, just as you saw him go up into the heavens." (Acts 1:11)
