Council Activities

The Knights of Bishop Maurice F. Burke Council are a vibrant group of men actively involved with programs to serve the needs of their church, community, and families.

Service to the Church

Council members generously share their time, talent, and treasure with the Church of St. Anthony in Cody, providing the financial support and muscle needed for various facilities improvement projects (i.e., kitchen renovation, air conditioning the Church's physical plant). Knights serve as ushers for weekly services, promote the national Keep Christ in Christmas campaign with a themed float in the community Christmas parade, and recognize altar servers and cross-bearers with an annual pizza party.

Through its many construction and fundraising projects undertaken on the monks' behalf, Council 4031 is committed to assist the Carmelite Monks in Clark, Wyo. in accomplishing their vision of building a monastery of 30 cloistered monks.

Vocations are the life of the Church. For the Fraternal Year 2006–2007, Council 4031 is once again sponsoring a seminarian for the Diocese of Cheyenne through the national Knights of Columbus Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP).

Service to the Community

Council members are actively involved within the Cody Community. From maintaining a 2-mile stretch of highway through the Adopt-a-Highway Program to providing volunteers to work with Habitat for Humanity, the Knights give back more than service to local causes. Funds raised throughout the year are distributed to organizations that benefit the entire Cody community such as the Children's Resource Center, the Cody Cupboard, the Cody Council on Aging, Spirit Mountain Hospice, the Cody Teachers' Needy Kids Fund, Civil Air Patrol Cody Cadets, and more.

Family and Youth Programs

Families – husbands, wives, children, and widows – are important to the Knights. Activities such as picnics and Lenten breakfasts revolve around the parish family, while programs such as the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition are open to all area youth.

Knights are uncompromisingly pro-life, providing financial support for organizations such as Cody Right to Life, Park County Teens for Life, Catholics United for Life, and St. Anthony's Office of Natural Family Planning. Council 4031 actively supports youth participation in chastity retreats and Kairos, the Youth Formation Program for all school-aged children and high school youth of the Church of St. Anthony of Padua.

Service to Brother Knights

Council 4031 has trained 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Degree Teams that are available to conduct exemplifications for councils throughout Wyoming and southern Montana.
